Thanksgiving on the Central Coast
Haystack Rock and Cape Kiwanda in front of our brew pub Thanksgiving feast. The weather was so nice, we climbed the dunes before dinner. Heceta Head light house after a nearly two year restoration. Yvonne spots a pair of raptors on a nearby rock outcrop. Peregrine Falcons, as best as I can tell. HIking above, for a closer view of the spinning fresnel lenses.
Such nice weather kept the sea lions out of the caves and on the rocks below 101. They smelled funny... Cropping in for a look at more detail... From the 101 viewpoint. B&W is a good way to deal with the slightly foggy photography conditions. Yvonne in her happy place. Washburne Beach. A complete sand dollar is a rare find. Yvonne can spot them from 100 yards. Quarry Cove on a very calm November morning.
Harbor seal is quite curious about us. Quarry Cove, Yaquina Head. Still trying to figure out what raptor this is... In case you were wondering. This went on for an impressive length of time, as the down stream seal can attest. A Harlequin drake scoots by... Giving the stink eye as he (she?) claims a rock as the tide turns out. I can't go to Yaquina Head without photographing the lighthouse (Oregon's tallest since 1872).
A different view... Cobble Beach. The steep beach, basalt cobbles, and waves make the most amazing sound. Although a bit foggy, Yvonne spotted this pair of eagles. We watched them for a while... Yaquina Bay Bridge from the Newport Bayfront. F/V Miss Yvonne back in Newport. We hadn't seen her in a year and a half (looking a bit tired). A silver beach, as the weather begins to turn.
